DRESS CODE

Gasper's & School of Dance maintains a dress code to encourage concentration and a sense of inclusiveness (variations in attire can be distracting and contribute to feelings of inequality). Uniformity in dance wear allows the teachers to assess how well the students are implementing the technique being taught, problems with alignment, and other important aspects of dance training.

Students should carry their dance wear, shoes, and other belongings in a dance bag. Please print your child’s name on the bag as well as on all of its contents. Dance wear is to be kept in good repair and laundered on a regular basis.

Updated 8/29/2022  Apparel and dress code subject to change.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION AND WARNINGS

  • The uniformity of having a dress code in ballet class and dance styles is to help instructors see proper alignment and body position. Having the same color leotard provides less distraction to both the instructor and the students in the class.

  • We do require our dancers to follow our dress code that is put forth on this web page.

  • Dancers have 3 weeks to comply to the dress code as stated above.

  • Leotard, tights, and shoes may be purchased at Gasper's School of Dance, Discount Dance, Eurotard.com or locally at Applause.

  • SKIRTS: If you want to wear a skirt in ballet class, the instructor teaching must allow it. If they do, it must be a black "bullet pointe" style skirt (linked above under ballet).

  • Leotard colors purchased outside of Gasper's School of Dance, must be a close match to the colors we have laid out above.

  • Novice Level Dancers (Itty Bitty and Pre-Ballet): It works best if the skirt is attached to the leotard. So your young dancer does not fiddle and play with the skirt during class.

WARNINGS

Please adhere to our Dress Code set forth in our classes. If you (or your dancer) do not wear the appropriate color leotard or attire for ballet we will take the following actions.

  1. WEEK 1 of non-dress code color
A verbal reminder from instructor, studio director, or front desk staff about the proper ballet leotard color.

  2. WEEK 2 of non-dress code color
We will email the parent / caregiver with the proper attire your dancer should be wearing for class. If we have a print out, we will mail it home.

  3. WEEK 3 of non-dress code color
You will be asked to sit to the side during class and watch. If we have loaner leotards, we will ask you to use that for the day.
